Human Prayers to Time

A Short Story

This story is no longer online, but its contents will be included in Hope’s War Part Two (Against a God).

Long before the last dragon had found a new family with the humans, a town in Southern Blolanda was gaining a name for itself. The town of Sumond was informed that the youngest graduate of the Lord’s program would be apprenticed in Sumond. No one expected the Lord of Sumond to die so soon, but as was the law, his apprentice took his place. Liam Talmin was fifteen when he received the title of Lord. He became known for his kindness, the youth his eyes held. Even so, they said his eyes held experience and understanding. Lately, though, they said the experience in his eyes had started to look more like a glaze than wisdom…

A companion to B. H. Mallorie’s debut novel (Seconds in Eternity), “Human Prayers to Time” is a short story that reveals the origins of the curse on the town of Sumond and provides a glimpse into the ancient dragon scale cloth industry.
